Management of AKA Direct is lead by the company's President and CEO, Wayne Modica, an experienced direct marketing veteran. Wayne, with the backing of Walt Aman and Ken Kudrna, is ably assisted by an experienced management team and production staff boasting some of the most experienced and respected direct marketing professionals in the Pacific Northwest. Our staff and production crews possess an average of 20 years experience in the industry.
With four primary production departments and extensive in-house support resources, AKA Direct sustains its growth in two ways. First, we live and breathe a simple mantra – give great customer service at a great price. It's a hard-won reputation we stand by.
Second, we stay ahead of the curve, anticipating changes in the industry so that we – and our customers – are always ready for success. We stay sharp through continued reinvestment in equipment, technology and training.

Wayne has been with the company since 2002, after a career in marketing that started with RL Polk & Co. in 1989. Over his 20-year career in marketing, he has worked with many Fortune 500 companies including Farmers Insurance Group, General Motors, GMAC, Ford Motor Company, and CIT Group, to name a few. Wayne specializes in full-service direct mail programs, i.e., market conception, data targeting and manipulation, creative direction and copy, package mechanics reproduction, print management, production follow-through, and back-end analytical studies.
David has over 25 years of Telecommunications/Broadband industry experience. Senior management/executive positions held in Operations/Marketing and Sales with the likes of Cisco Systems, Scientific-Atlanta, Rogers and McCaw Communications. David has had many years of strategic campaign management along with implementation and execution of integrated marketing initiatives. Additionally, he has worked on the vendor side of the business supporting many Fortune 500 clients such as Time Warner, Comcast, Qwest, DirecTV, Intel and PGE.
Ken's unique qualifications in data processing and extensive experience in the tourism and travel industries allow him to manage complex technical situations while providing solutions in plain English. Ken is responsible for monitoring ongoing activities in all AKA departments that are necessary to successfully serving tourism fulfillment client needs. As a Vice President, he is in a position to implement necessary changes, take advantage of an opportunity, or effect corrective action in any area of tourism programming without question.
Walter L. Aman has served as AKA's hands-on IT Director for over three decades. His background dates from the earliest days of mini-computers, through a series of ever-larger IBM Mainframes – from the birth of PCs to the design and implementation of multi-server enterprise networks.
While having learned from necessity how to construct workstations and servers from scratch, his priority is and has always been the integrity and security of client data. In his three decades at AKA, Walt has managed the corporate consumer databases for Fortune 100 corporations including NIKE. He's been responsible for the security of confidential employee and stockholder databases for the nation's largest corporations including IBM, Intel and Coca-Cola. He's also managed private voting records for the RNC and processed data containing the highly confidential voting and taxpayer data of millions of citizens for several states, and the Internal Revenue Service.
Technology and IT at AKA Direct are designed and managed with one singular mission: to serve our clients and protect their data assets. This has been Walt Aman's watch since the 1970s. His focus and commitment to that mission is constant and unwavering. It is personal and it is permanent.
As AKA's Controller since 1986, Mary Jane Aman is intimately familiar with the devil in the details of print, mailing and fulfillment services. In addition to impressive academic credentials (she holds advanced degrees from Portland State University), Mary Jane brings to the AKA management team a broad business experience in accounting, management information systems and human resource administration. She has held key positions in a wide variety of privately-owned businesses as well as major public sector agencies. Mary Jane's watchful eye assures that AKA clients benefit from the lowest possible postage and freight rates. Her daily focus is on rigorous record keeping, diligent attention to detail, the most efficient possible internal operations and the preparation of clear, legible, easily understood invoices to all AKA clients. Her wealth of experience inside the industry and in the larger world of business, government and community service adds valuable perspective to the AKA management team.
Sally is directly responsible for production coordination of major print and mail projects and programs – coordinating all production processes and scheduling to assure efficient, on-time completion of prepress, press, bindery and mailing operations for major AKA Direct clients. With two decades of experience in prepress, offset and digital print coordination, she is a seasoned veteran in deadline sensitive direct marketing print management. Sally is a skilled and experienced direct marketing professional, and an able and willing go-to resource for all of her clients. She provides an unequalled depth and breadth of knowledge of both direct marketing disciplines and internal AKA systems and processes.
Laura is a gifted facilitator, an eager study and a willing and able partner to all of her clients, She provides an unequalled depth and breadth of knowledge of both direct marketing disciplines and internal AKA systems and processes. Her years of experience as a Mail Production Manager with clients in numerous industries from small projects to massive mailing assignments, allow Laura to provide high quality, responsive coordination and communication skills to all of our clients.
Skip has unparalleled expertise in hands-on control of the complete data processing cycle, from initial data analysis and conversion through NCOA and mail qualification to the creation, proofing and production of personalized laser output. Projects involving multiple computer processes and millions of records are standard operations issues for Skip and his colleagues in the computer department. As primary data processing coordinator, Skip has access to the entire computer resources at AKA to assure data integrity, solid production coordination and mail qualification at the lowest possible postage rates. Skip's many years of experience in handling the database management and list processing activities for our clients qualify him as a tremendous asset for all of our clients.
Debra has been in the Direct Marketing and Data Processing industry for over 20 years. Her experience encompasses a variety of PAVE certified software includes Group1, Postal Soft and Bulk Mailer to ready files for the best mailing rates. Debra's expertise includes writing programs to match client's needs, i.e,. merge/purge from single and multiple lists, upgrade tables using a client supplied giving history, select criteria from lists based on client specs. Her knowledge is an invaluable resource to AKA and all of our clients.
Large volume mailings are our stock-in-trade, and experience has taught us that scheduling is the key to superior service. In his position as Production Manager, Bob is responsible for all scheduling and coordination of mailing programs, and interfacing with the data processing department on output control. Twenty years in production supervision and quality control combined with exceptional communications skills allow Bob to manage with the efficiency and organizational acumen that are indispensable to a program of this type and to our firm.
Scott began his career in the printing industry in 1983, cutting his teeth on web and sheet fed presses after being trained at an apprentice level. In a short three-year span, Scott was promoted to the position of Print Manager. As his experience and expertise grew he soon took over all aspects of management of print and production for direct mail, overseeing 58 employees and managing two shifts. As a testament to Scott's skills, he is the proud recipient of an industry Gold Medal for Printing Excellence for the Alaska Airlines Magazine.
Dave has been designing and developing custom software for AKA and its clients since 1986, including data warehouses, statistical analytical processing and internet-based marketing decision support systems. He specializes in developing tools to streamline business processes and improve direct mail response rates for numerous AKA customers in market segments that include non-profit, healthcare, tourism and many other business sectors.
